Let me give you some general specifics. Our team was centered out of Lautoka at the ‘YWAM Medical Marine Reach’ base. It was a spacious living arrangement that was placed directly above a delicious, hole-in-the-wall restaurant. We lived on that base in between villages. This allowed us enough time to attend the special needs school, prison ministry, visit patients in the local hospital, and prepare for the next village (i.e. wash all laundry). During the 6 wks, we lived in 4 villages (3 Fijian, 1 Indian) and visited approximately 6 in all. One of my favorite memories was traveling to the village known as Kese on the Naviti Island. Ten of us climbed into a small “boat” with all of our luggage. This boat was maybe 15 feet in length with nothing in it except a motor hanging off the back and a jug of extra gasoline. In the States, this would only be used for fishing on a lake, not traveling across the ocean for 3 hours. It was absolutely hilarious, especially when it began to rain...and then pour. If you haven’t seen it already I encourage you to watch the video on my Facebook page and you will see our driver scooping water out of the vessel as we are moving along. I will forever cherish that memory. :)
Fijians are so hospitable which was a huge blessing(!), especially considering my health wasn't really what I had hoped it would be. That being said, I learned to trust God for my healing and more importantly God became my source of comfort, love, family, and home. When I am with God, I am home.
